Amber Lynn Podcast Appearance – “A Lot’s Happened Since Yesterday”

Forgot to mention that I recently appeared on the great new “A Lot’s Happened Since Yesterday” podcast. It was a lively conversation that I wanted to share with my fans and to help get the word out. Among other things, Ralph and Cody from the band Ravenscroft and I discuss:

  • Exemption #AB2257 for California’s AB5 Law which turned the adult (and other gig workers’) lives upside down.
  • My days as a roller-skating bikini model and the path to adult entertainment.
  • The negative effects of piracy and how it’s changed the music and adult industry, forever.
  • My passion for animal and pet rights.
  • Getting trapped in Las Vegas as a result of the pandemic.
  • Growing up in the OC and purposely getting kicked out of high school.
  • The California/punk rock scene in the 1980s.
  • My favorite interviewees on Rock N’ Sexy Uncensored.
  • My infamous David Lee Roth story.
  • …and about 100 other topics.

I hope everyone enjoys this wide-ranging conversation as much as we did. If you have any questions or comments, please leave a comment! I see them all and enjoy answering my fans. Thanks, Ralph and Cody, for such a fun conversation.

“Once Upon a Time… In the Valley” Podcast: Amber’s Version

Cadence13 recently published the first three installments of their new podcast “Once Upon a Time… In the Valley” – a series on the classic age of adult cinema. Episode #3, “We Kinda Made it Hardcore“, features a short interview segment with Ginger Lynn where she shares a story involving the two of us. My recollection of events is very different and I feel a need to set the record straight.

These first three episodes (I hope they make more) focus on Traci Lords and the adult industry fallout after everyone figured out she was underage while filming all but one of her movies. Many of my colleagues (Kelly Nichols, Suze Randall, Tom Byron, Veronica Hart and more) from the 80s-era are interviewed – myself included. My brother, Buck Adams, is also mentioned. Ginger shares her memories of the day the two Lynns first met.

Ginger Lynn tells a story about meeting me for the first time at Harry Reems’ house, and that would have been the summer of ‘84. She goes into detail about confronting me when I told her my intention to use the professional name “Amber Lynn” because she didn’t like my choice. “You can’t be Amber Lynn! I’m Ginger Lynn!” She goes on to say that the argument turned into a drunken Amber vs. Ginger catfight culminating in us having sex on a stairway with Harry and Jamie Gillis (who I was dating at the time and had met through John Leslie) spectating.

I have to inform my fans that this story is not true and definitely did not happen. I never had a conversation with Ginger regarding my name when we first met, nor did we have a catfight, or (sorry guys) a sexual encounter on a stairway. Ginger Lynn arrived after Jamie and I were already there. She was introduced to me outside on the beachfront patio, had obviously had been drinking and was carrying a bottle of tequila around. Ginger was very sweet upon meeting me, and made a pass almost immediately, asking if “I liked girls”. A very short and sweet moment passed between us and then she disappeared into the house with Harry and up to his bedroom.

Amber Lynn in Vixens in Heat

There was no catfight, no screen name discussion and no sex on the stairs. Again – I was already an actress, working in the industry as Amber Lynn, and had started shooting film and video in early 1983 – kicking off what would become an amazing career with Vixens In Heat which we shot in September of that year. As mentioned earlier, the first meeting with Ginger didn’t occur until 1984 at Harry’s.

Ginger Lynn Allen and I share the same exact middle and last name. The first video photographer who shot me was Bobby Hollander (for Personal Touch 3 and Centerfold Celebrities with John Leslie) and he wanted me to use the name “Amber Lynn Lane” – as back then the top female talents were often named after streets in the San Fernando Valley (Laurel Canyon, Desiree Lane etc.). I didn’t like that idea, I wanted to keep it to just my actual middle name, “Lynn”, which is what I was called growing up, and my agent and porn historian Bill Margold made him correct it early on in production.

Amber Lynn®️ has been my official USPTO registered trademark for years now, and even as a newcomer to this industry 37 years ago – I never wanted it any other way! I get deep into the early adult days in my upcoming autobiography, so stay tuned to the site for updates.

I have reached out to Cadence13 with my side of the story, and also spoken to IAFD in regards to their use of an incorrect screen name on some titles – to which an editor named “Titbug” replied: “I fully agree that directors and producers miscrediting performers is disrespectful and hurts performers’ brands. But there is nothing that we can do: we are simply listing facts.”

In spite of these little speed bumps, I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the podcast, and encourage everyone to give it a listen. Lili Anolik and her team did a terrific job, and I thank them for including me.

Amber Lynn Interviewed by The Rialto Report

Last week I was absolutely honored to be the subject of The Rialto Report’s 98th podcast, entitled “Amber Lynn: Rebel Yell“, and I can’t believe how well it turned out! Stories from the industry’s heyday started flowing – and I think it makes for a hell of a listen.

If you’ve never heard of TRR, the site is “…a series of podcasts dedicated to expanding the historical record on the adult entertainment industry between the early 1960s and the mid-1980s. We take a special interest in adult film production in New York during this period but are also interested in the industry in other geographical areas. The project is named after the Rialto Theatre, New York’s oldest continually operating exploitation theater.

But TRR isn’t limited to podcasts. You’ll also find a wealth of written interviews, vintage galleries of adult industry performers and personalities, plus a variety of other articles any fan of Amber Lynn and the golden age of porn is sure to appreciate. In the last year alone, they’ve launched podcasts on and with the likes of Randy Spears, John Stagliano, Mary Stuart and more.

Subjects discussed in the 104 minute podcast include my entry into the industry, my beloved big brother – Buck Adams, favorite male and female costars, family history I’ve never spoken about publically before – and a whole lot more. I even mention this little ol’ site a time or two. Have a listen then let me know what you thought in the comments.

And if you enjoyed the many stories and anecdotes, stay tuned for my upcoming autobiography. The podcast is just a tantilizing taste of what’s to come. Love you guys!

Playing Nice with Instagram

While we eventually overcame our differences (I’m back on and better than ever), last summer Instagram took my account down without warning or notice. This happened to many other adult performer’s accounts around the same time and led to quite a bit of stress as I’d spent 5 years building up the Amber Lynn account to over 100,000 followers.

Amber staying safe with a recent Instagram post for fans.

The takedowns actually led to a protest outside of Instagram’s New York offices. I was a part of the event as the Sergeant At Arms of APAG Adult Performers Actors Guild – behind the scenes and while running the social media protest as the President and VP arrived in person.  This all ended up with me being interviewed as part of a related news article for a Canadian publication. As I said at the time:

“There was a lot of stuff that was not just content of me as a model and an actor but private, personal mementos that were lost just because they can take it with the flick of a switch,” she said. “And Instagram doesn’t care.”

My role in the controversy was small in comparison to those who protested, but the group effort resulted in clearer Insta terms and conditions involving shared content, and greater transparency between the app and its users.

An interesting moment in social media history which I thought I’d share. My account is alive and well once again, so please drop in and say hello!: Amber Lynn’s Instagram.

Amber Lynn Interview With CBS

I was honored when CBS News reached out recently and asked me to participate in a piece on mental health in the adult entertainment industry. During the interview, they took the time to discuss a lot more, too. Have a look, Amber Lynn fans – and I hope you enjoy it!

“Lynn said she has deep concerns for today’s porn performers. “When I was young, I never really felt like I was in a position where if something happened to me, I wouldn’t have somebody that I could turn to that would be able to see me through that dark period … the actors of today, we lose a lot of them, because there’s a lot of suicides, for many different reasons.” Full article on CBSNews.com

Thanks again to CBS for asking me to contribute to this critical conversation affecting everyone in the modern adult business – especially newcomers – of which there are more entering porn on a regular basis than ever before.

The adult world can be a rewarding and fulfilling line of work, but it’s not for everyone. Future performers (and even fans) should be aware of the risks to mental health. I appreciate being given another forum to share my experiences.

Amber Lynn and HBO’s “The Deuce”

While it recently celebrated its series finale, it was exciting to get an Amber Lynn mention on the final season of another HBO masterpiece, The Deuce. If you haven’t seen it, this wonderful show covers the trials and tribulations of many interesting characters during the birth of the adult industry – from every angle. Performers, directors, cops, mobsters and their families are all part of the story. So where did little ‘ol me fit in?

Let’s start with the fundamentals. What was “the deuce”? What does it mean? Simply put, it was what we all called the strip from 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue in New York City. While the majority of my time in the industry was spent in California, I did hit “The Deuce” a few times as a dancer (and civilian). At the time it was a lot of fun. This is where my shout out comes in…

I don’t have a clip of the scene, but the dialogue speaks for itself. One of the main characters, a hooker turned porn star named “Lori Madison“, is down on her luck and visiting NYC. She drops in unannounced at a strip club she’s previously featured at in desperate need of money. There’s a scene with her talking to the manager which goes something like this (it’s been a few days since I watched the episode):

  • Lori: I was hoping I could dance here this week. I’ve always done good by your club.
  • Manager: Lori, you know I love ya, but we’re booked up through the end of the week. I’ve got Amber Lynn as the feature!
  • Lori: Well maybe I could go on right before her. Give the fans an unexpected surprise?
  • Manager: Are you kidding? And cut into her tips right before she goes on? Amber would fucking kill me!

Flattering, and also… accurate. I definitely wouldn’t have stood for another adult star going on first when I was the feature. Be that as it may, I was thrilled to be mentioned on such a great show, along with many others including porn star Vanessa Chase, and encourage any fans who haven’t seen it to have a look at this remarkable tribute to NYC and the golden age of the adult industry.

Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” Features an Amber Lynn Cameo

I’ve never met him – not that I remember, anyway – but there’s a decent chance Michael Douglas is an Amber Lynn fan. I was beyond flattered to learn I’d been mentioned on his Netflix show when a friend sent me this article today. I mean, who wouldn’t be thrilled to get referenced by Jack Colton himself?

During the episode, Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas) is in bad shape. Like terminally. His doctor asks him to think back to happier times in order to (hopefully) help his condition rebound. We’re then treated with a montage which features, among other fond memories, a shot from the Amber Lynn (that’s me) April 1990 Hustler spread. If you’re a Hustler online subscriber, you can see the original pictorial here.

Below you’ll find the Kominsky Method season 2 trailer, and if anyone locates a clip of my little mention – please let me know and I’ll post it here. Michael Douglas won the best actor Golden Globe for the show. So, again – flattered! Made my day. My week, even.

I was also recently mentioned on HBO’s The Deuce – but that’s worthy of its own post. Thanks to my beloved fans for making me aware of that one, too.
